Hot springs & History

Situated in the southeast of Hainan Province, Wanning City borders on the South China Sea and has a total area of 1883.5 km2 and a population of 530,000.

With more than 300,000 of its natives and overseas born relatives living in 26 countries and regions all over the world, Wanning is noted as one of the important hometowns of overseas Chinese. Wanning was established as a county 631 and is one of the few ancient cities on the island.

Numerous historical sites stand as testimonial. Among them, Dongshan Hill is well known for its ancient temple, Danzhou Island is the native home of an endangered species of swallows that produce edible nests and Xinglong is famous for its hot spring resorts and Tropical Botanical Garden which boasts a complete collection of tropical flora.

Local specialities include Xinglong coffee, Hele crabs, Gangbei prawns and Dongshan mutton which are known throughout China and parts of Southeast Asia. Every town and tourist spot in the city is connected by bus lines.

Xinglong Hot Springs
Located at the state-owned Xinglong Overseas Chinese Farm in the east of Wanning City, Xinglong Hot Spring is famous because it is rich in minerals and has a good curative effect.

Dongshanling Ridge
Known as the First Hill in Hainan, the Dongshanling is 3 km to the east of Wancheng town, Wanning City. It is a rocky hill that has deep and quiet caves.

Xinglong Tropical Botanical Garden
Located at the Xinglong Hot Spring Scenic Zone, it occupies an area of 40 hectares and has more than 1200 kinds of plants including tropical cash crops such as coffee, pepper and famous tropical fruit.

Liulian Ridges

It is situated about 60 km to the north of Wancheng Town, Wanning City. It is called Liulian Ridge, meaning six in one connection, because the 6 ridges are linked up in one row. The Liulian Ridges is covered with thick forests and has plenty of water. It is not only an important natural reserve of plants in Hainan but also one of the 8 scenic spots in Wanning. It used to be a military fort. On one top of the ridges is a stone cave that can hold about 100 persons. As the cave has spring water, it was occupied by the Red Army men in wartime and thus is also called the Red Army Cave.

Shenzhou Peninsula

Shenzhou Peninsula is about 30 km to the south of Wancheng Town, Wanning City. It is known for its thick forest, beautiful waters and in particular rocks of strange shape. The Rocky Islet, which is only dozens of meters offshore, is a masterpiece by the nature. There are also rocks in shape of a rooster or a turtle. They show different shapes with the change of tides. Those fascinating rocks, in contrast of rolling waves and a long white beach, create a magnificent landscape.

Niuling Ridge Seascape

Niuling Ridge is right beside the eastern expressway at the juncture of Wanning City and Lingshui Li Nationality Autonomous County. It is a hill that has the best seascape along the eastern expressway. It extends gently to the sea. A pavilion has been built on it at the end of a zigzagging road for the purpose of seascape admiring. Under the pavilion is the peaceful and blue sea. To the left is the Shimei Bay with a forest of rare plants. To the right is the Xiangshui Bay with silver beaches. At the back is the luxuriously green mountain. It is just the right place to catch all beauty and charm of the nature.
