The fertile River Valley
Tongza is a city nestling among the hills and mountains. It is lying at the foot of Atuo Ridge, which is in the hinterland of Wuzhi Mountain. The city have approximately 100,000 inhabitants and its name in the local dialect of the Li nationalities means "Fertile River Valley". Tongza is well known for the rich culture of the Li and Miao nationalities.
It also boasts unique tropical mountainous scenery, and a very pleasant weather.The scenic spots in and around the city include the magnificent landscaping of Wuzhi Mountain, the Nationalities Museum of Hainan, the Cultural Village of the Chinese Nationalities, the Taipingshan waterfalls, the Li Villages at Fanmao and Zayi and the Miao Village at Mao'an.
Famous local products are green tea of Wuzhi Mountain, tropical orchids and Li nationality's brocade. Today, Tongza as an important tourist destination attracts more and more people from all over the world to experience the enthusiasm and hospitality of Li nationality people. Tongza is convenient to reach. It is 213 km from Haikou in the north and 89 km from Sanya in the south.
The Wuzhishan - five fingers directed to the sky
It is said in Hainan, that if you never have climbed the Wuzhi, you have never been to Hainan. Hainan 's highest mountain is called Wuzhi (five fingers). It is a symbol of the island and its peaks have the shape of a hand. Among its five peaks, the second one, which is 1,867 meters, is the highest. Looking from a long distance, the peaks are coiled by the clouds. To watch the sunrise from the peaks is a pleasant enjoyment which you should not miss.
Taipinshan Waterfall
The Taipingshan Waterfall is situated on the Taiping Mountain, 6 km to the northeast of Tongza Town. The Taiping Mountain has exquisite scenery. The rocks found there are seen tier. The water which comes from the lake, on top of the Taiping Mountain , splashes on the rock down to steep cliff making thunderous sounds. The water streams down the rock glacier, into a big rocky pool, which forms the second waterfall and then pours down another steep cliff, forming the third deep pool.
